Duties:

The Cardiac Biology group conducts preclinical translational research to evaluate potential therapeutics for cardiac diseases with high unmet medical needs. Our cell biology group models cardiac disease in cell-based systems to identify new areas of cardiovascular research, and to understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms of action for a wide range of therapeutic modalities, including gene therapy, oligonucelotide, small molecule, and peptide approaches.

 

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our cardiovascular cell biology group. The position offers a unique opportunity to develop therapeutics from the early exploratory stage across a wide range of inherited cardiac disease indications. Cell biology work in the lab will focus on 1-2 projects, often taking on the Cell Biology Functional Lead on Project Teams. The successful candidate will be a proactive self-starter, with clear passion to progress scientific discoveries, and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced colloborative team environment. He/She will communicate scientific findings at Team Meetings, as well as at several forums throughout the company. She/He will partner closely with other senior research associates and scientists with different skillsets to support the discovery and pre-clinical development of a wide-range of therapeutic modalities.

  • Investigate, identify, develop, and optimize cellular modeling of cardiac disease.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment, with a proven rack record of productive collaborative research experience.
  • Participates and presents their data at team and department meetings, often taking the primary functional lead on team projects.
  • Proactively troubleshoots technical issues and recommends corrective actions.
  • Working knowledge of any of following is beneficial but not necessary: functional cardiomyocyte assays, experience with culturing iPS-derived cardiomyocytes, monitoring cardiac cell function with cardio xCELLigence or by high speed calicum imaging, force traction microscopy, confocal microscopy, high content imaging, live cell imaging, CRIPSR editing, electrophysiology.

Skills:

  • Technical experience in cell biology, cell signaling, genetics, gene therapy, biochemistry, molecular biology, physiology, pharmacology, or other related field.
  • Working experience with adherent cells, plate-based assays, downstream biochemistry and/or cell imaging.
  • Technical experience with successful development of reporter, proliferation, potency, survival, functional or cell signaling assays using lentiviral or other viral / non-viral gene transduction systems in mamalian cells (primary cells, immortalized cell lines, and / or iPSC-derived cell lines).
  • Advanced skills in experimental design, data analysis, and data presentation.
  • Excellent organizational, documentation, and communication skills; adaptive learning, critical thinking, friendly and approachable, professional, and the ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment.

 

Education:

Bachelor’s degree with 6-8 years of experience; Master’s degree with at least 4 - 6years of relevant experience
