    SCIENTIST I

    Carlsbad, CA

    Abbott Rapid Diagnostics is part of Abbott’s Diagnostics family of businesses, bringing together exceptional teams of experts and industry-leading technologies to support diagnostic testing which provides important information for the treatment and management of diseases and other conditions.

    The position of Scientist I is within our Cardiometabolic business unit located at the Alere San Diego site in Carlsbad, California. This role, under minimal supervision, is responsible for R&D activities related to the design, development, optimization and implementation of new Quality Control methods and techniques as needed during new product development and process transfers. This position is also responsible for supporting a resolution of QC testing issues and supporting a resolution of product/production improvements which increase quality, lower cost and increase manufacturing capacity.

     

    WHAT YOU’LL DO

    • Investigates, and may create and develop new methods and technologies for project advancement with guidance from a more experienced colleague
    • Conducts experiments related to the development, optimization, or improvement of QC methods and tests. Seeks advice when needed from more experienced colleagues for more complicated technical and design challenges.
    • Able to handle multiple projects independently.
    • Possesses and applies knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of a particular field of specialization to the completion of moderately complex assignments.
    • Works on problems of moderate and diverse scope in which analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Proposes potential solutions to more advanced problems.
    • May plan and work on projects of smaller complexity under limited supervision
    • No formal supervisor duties, but may direct less experienced laboratorians in their day-to-day work and assist in problem-solving.
    • Understands and is aware of the quality consequences which may occur from the improper performance of their specific job; has awareness of device defects that may occur in their area of responsibility, including product design, verification, and validation, manufacturing and testing activities
    • Responsible for exhibiting professional behavior with both internal/external business associates that reflects positively on the company and is consistent with the company’s policies and practices; build productive internal/external working relationships
    • Carries out duties in compliance with established business policies
    • Other duties as assigned, according to the changing needs of the business

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

    Required

    • B.S in biological science, or related discipline; with 3+ years of progressively responsible positions.

    Preferred

    • Training and experience in analytical and other method development related to testing of Biologic Reagents including methods using HPLC, ELISA, Mass Spectrometry, and other tools.
    • Training and experience with statistical analysis of data sets related to analysis methods.
    • Conduct technical tasks and lead projects with minimal supervision.
    • Operate complex laboratory equipment and perform routine maintenance.
    • Ability to communicate and work with external Abbott Rapid Diagnostic development partners, resource planning, and management of time across multiple projects.
    • Must have a proven track record of problem-solving skills and developing strategic solutions to produce deliverables and meet timelines.
    • Excellent presentation, oral and written communication skills, computer skills with MS Office applications.
