TITLE: Senior Data Engineer Specialist
Position Summary:
The Senior Data Engineer Specialist is a position within the Global Blood Therapeutics’ Development Operations department. In close collaboration with the Head of the Business Operations and Analytics and Senior Business Intelligence Manager, the Senior Data Engineer Specialist is responsible for expanding and optimizing the data warehouse and building data integrations, developing data best practices and governance, performing clinical and administrative reporting, specifically optimizing data flows and collection for cross functional teams. This position will support the analytics team in ensuring optimal data delivery architecture and maturity the analytics capability for the department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops and maintains scalable data pipelines and builds out new integrations to support continuing increases in data volume and complexity
- Designs and develops scalable ETL packages/pipelines for data extract, load and transform data between source systems, extraction, and integration of data into various data assets, including data lake and fit for purpose data repositories, both on-prem and cloud
- Collaborates with data architects to understand data structures and concepts including conceptual, logical, and dimensional models and provide early feedback
- Designs and develops scalable data APIs to provide data as a service to microservices, applications, and analytical tools
- Designs and develops data migrations in support of enterprise application and system implementations from legacy systems
- Writes functional specifications for data pipelines and APIs and writes and performs unit/integration tests
- Performs data analysis required to troubleshoot data related issues and assist in the resolution of data issues
- Assists in planning, coordinating, and executing engineering projects
- Supports and collaborates with other team members through evaluation, design analysis, and development phases
- Maintains knowledge, ensures competency and compliance with policies and procedures, to be the technical expert while collaborating with cross-functional teams
Qualifications:
- BA/BS and minimum of 7 years of related experience
- Experience in Cloud ETL tools – Matillion preferred
- Experience in data visualization tools - Tableau preferred
- Experience in Cloud technologies – AWS preferred
- Proficiency in using SQL query language and other analytics program languages such as Python and R.
- Experience in Snowflake Cloud Data Warehouse
- Experience in data profiling, data analysis and building Data Quality metrics
- Experience building ETL for moving the data from disparate source system into data lake and dimensional models
- Experience in documenting and implementing the best practices for building data transformation and load processes
- Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills
- Process oriented with great documentation skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with a keen sense of customer service
- Demonstrated ability to assess current and future business needs and develop implementation strategies to support business objectives
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, matrixed, team environment consisting of internal and external team members
